At a glance
Gemini Tip- Gemini in Google Workspace can now look up Jira issues and Confluence pages through the Atlassian Rovo integration, so you can ask about a ticket from the Ask Gemini side panel in Docs.
- Connect the integration once from the Google Workspace Marketplace, then type
@in Ask Gemini, pick Atlassian Rovo, and ask about a specific issue or page. - Treat it as read-only. Google’s Help page says integrations only support read actions, so update the ticket in Jira yourself.
You are writing the design doc for a payments retry fix. The acceptance criteria live in a Jira issue, the old retry policy lives on a Confluence page, and the doc holds a pasted copy of both. Then someone comments on the ticket, the criteria change, and your doc quietly disagrees with Jira. Ask Gemini can read the issue where you write, so you check the source instead of yesterday’s paste.
Why it matters
On 15 September 2026, Workspace Updates said Gemini in Workspace can reach Asana, Atlassian Rovo, HubSpot, Intuit Mailchimp, Intuit QuickBooks, Monday and Salesforce through Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, without switching tabs or downloading files. The post says it is available now on Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.
For developers, Atlassian Rovo is the one that matters. Google’s Help page says it can track down specific Jira issues and project details and locate documentation across your Confluence pages, and the Marketplace listing adds reviewing Jira comments. That covers most of what a design doc borrows from the tracker.
How to pull a Jira issue into Ask Gemini
You need a supported Google AI plan or Workspace edition. Google’s Help page lists Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra for personal accounts and a set of Business, Enterprise and education editions for work or school accounts. The Workspace Updates post lists a slightly different set, so check your plan against the Help article. On a work or school account, your admin also has to allow integrations.
- On your computer, go to the Google Workspace Marketplace integrations page, workspace.google.com/marketplace/category/integrations.
- Select Atlassian Rovo Integration, click “Connect”, and follow the on-screen steps to grant access. Help says some integrations need a third-party helper app, and the listing’s “Overview” section names it if so.
- Open your design doc in Google Docs and open Ask Gemini.
- In the text box at the bottom, type
@and select the Atlassian Rovo integration. Help and the listing name it slightly differently, so the entry in your menu may not match either name exactly. - Enter one prompt at a time and press Enter. PAY-482 below is an example issue key, so swap in your own.
Check the answer against the issue in Jira before you paste anything into the doc. We built these steps from Google’s Help, Workspace Updates and Marketplace pages and have not run them against a live Jira site.
Gotchas
- Read, don’t write: Help says integrations “currently only support read actions” and that you can’t use one to make changes to third-party apps. The Marketplace listing mentions taking Jira actions, but we follow Help, so update the ticket in Jira yourself.
- Admin gate: Workspace Updates says the feature is on by default for users with Gemini for Google Workspace access, and Admin Help says admins control integrations like other Marketplace apps, including with an allowlist. If Atlassian Rovo doesn’t show up, ask your admin.
- Two subscriptions: Help says some integrations need a third-party subscription on top of your Google plan. The listing shows “Free of charge with paid features”, so check the listing’s details before you roll this out to your team.
- Other apps: Help also lists Chat, Drive, Gmail, Sheets and Slides, but Sheets and Chat have their own connection steps. These steps are for Docs.
- Disconnecting: go to your Google Account security settings, find the “Your connections to third-party app & services” card, click “See all connections”, select the app, delete its connections, and click “Confirm”.
Recommended AI prompt
Copy this paragraph into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or whatever AI you use.
I keep a design doc in Google Docs and the requirements in a Jira issue, and I want Gemini in Workspace to read the issue through the Atlassian Rovo integration in the Ask Gemini side panel. Ask me for the issue key and the doc’s purpose, then write three short prompts I can run one at a time after I type @ and select the integration: one that summarizes the issue’s status, acceptance criteria and latest comments, one that finds related Confluence pages and lists each title with its link, and one that drafts a doc section with one bullet per acceptance criterion and labels anything missing as an open question. Remind me that the integration can read Jira but not change it, and do not invent issue fields or page names I did not mention.
